Rydberg Repeater

We are building a cold-atom ensemble based quantum repeater node for use in a long-distance quantum network. The platform for this node will be Rb87 atoms cooled in a magneto-optical trap (MOT), and loaded into a far off-resonant optical lattice trap (FORT). Memories stored in the ground states of cold atoms can have long lifetimes. Using collective effects in the ensemble, we can deterministically map the quantum memory onto single photons. Multiple nodes of a network can be entangled via photon interference. Networks based on these nodes can be used for high rates of entanglement generation and quantum teleportation.
